Maracas are made from gourds. On Aruba they are called calabas, so now you know where the name of the Calabas Plaza Residence comes from.
One of the lovely homes in this residential area is an air-conditioned `cunucu-style, typical Aruban house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The living area opens to a gorgeous patio surrounded by a tropical garden. Of course there is a pool for you to enjoy with an outside charcoal grill for BBQ-ing. Guests who love to cook will greatly appreciate the kitchen of this villa: we expect gourmet meals to be whipped up here!
This cheerful, colorful house sleeps six and there is a discount for those who wish to rent it for a minimum of twenty nights. Calabas is a district near the north coast of the island, not far from beaches, low-rise or hi-rise hotels and from Oranjestad, the capital of the island.

What a great house, clean, beautifully decorated, location is quite and safe. The pool was seculded, sunbeds and towels provided. We would stay here again. We had such a warm welcome and found a fanastic welcome cake in the fridge. Gayle & Paul were such a refreshing change and made for a relaxing time and a wealth of Aruban knowlodge. If you are looking for the perfect get away LOOK NO FURTHER. enjoy
Wow!! I stayed in this beautiful, tropical paradise for 3 weeks and absolutely loved it! Colourful Caribbean flair is everywhere in this unique, authentic Aruban style cottage. The high-quality furnishings, bedding and dishes all add to the charming decor. The bright, well-equipped kitchen is a pleasure to work in with windows looking out to lush, tropical flower gardens. The patio off the master bedroom offers a beautiful spot to relax, feel the warm, tropical breeze and view the picturesque pool-side gardens. Cool off in the pool which is as immaculate as the rest of the home. This rental is much more spacious than I expected and is the perfect choice for your tropical get-away. Look no further!
A Gem In Aruba This house was by far one of the nicest places we have ever stayed at. It was extremely clean and was well kept up.Gail and Paul were the perfect owners and treated us like Kings and Queens. There was everything there you needed and more.Their sense of decor was perfect and very relaxing. There was chairs for the beach. A cooler so you could take cold drinks etc in the heat of the day. The kitchen was stocked with many different types of pan etc and spices and cooking condiments so you didn't have to buy and throw away. Plenty of everything. I can't think of anything I would change. Thanks for the best time ever. We will be back.
This house is a lot larger than the pictures suggest. We traveled with our 4 teenage children and everyone had plenty of space. Gayle and Paul were fantastic and always so helpful. They went out of their way to make our vacation perfect. They even decorated the house for Christmas with authentic Arubian decorations and lights outside including a Christmas Palm tree. The kitchen has every spice you could need and was surprisingly well stocked for appliances and dishes. We had no trouble making a full Turkey dinner or decorating the table beautifully with the dishes already there. This house has tonnes of towel both for the beach and bath, the air conditioners in each room was fabulous. The kitchen is well laid out and often we had 3 or more people working in the kitchen at the same time and others sitting at the island visiting and never felt crowded. The gardens are lush and flowering. This house is the nicest one on the street. We always felt so proud to drive in. The location is so easy to find as it is on a main road with direct access to everything on the island and almost perfectly in the center, so nothing is very far. We can't wait to go back. Oh and Gayle's cakes are amazing...my kids loved them.
Nothing but great things to say about this adorable and spacious home. Paul was great and was there to help with whatever we needed, whatever time of day. My husband and I stayed here with our 2 children, one a teenager and the other a one year old. The house was a perfect fit for all of us! The house is even bigger in person than in the pictures. We can't wait to come back! Oh and the cake.....DELICIOUS!
I'm happy to report that Gayle and Paul not only met our expectations, they exceeded them. Their home is beautiful and the perfect size for a family. Each room had its own air conditioner, the house was clean and it was stocked with some complimentary beverages and a home baked cake which was a welcome sight after a long day of travel and little food. They had all the utensils you could ask for in the kitchen and did I mention they have WIFI and a wide screen, surround sound TV with a DVD player ! The landscaping and gardens are beautiful and well maintained and the pool was always clean. Gayle and Paul were always attentive to our needs and questions and they also respected our privacy during the week.We have no problem recommending them to anyone who's interested in renting their home and we plan on returning to their beautiful property on our next vacation.
The Perfect Home Away From Home My husband and I, along with our three grown children, stayed here for a week while visiting Aruba and we couldn't have asked for better accommodations. The property was a short ten minute drive to our favorite beach (Eagle Beach), grocery stores, shopping, nightlife and more. It was exceptionally clean and maintained. It was also stocked with everything we could have ever needed: dishes and silverware; DVDs; beach chairs and towels and more. Gayle and Paul were wonderful hosts (and now friends) who even baked us a cake upon our arrival. The surrounding landscape of luscious flowers and other plantings was gorgeous, and we certainly enjoyed it when sitting out on the terrace by the pool. Overall, we're so happy we booked the Cununcu Residence. It was just as Anna and Matthew from You Need A Vacation Rentals N.V. pictured and described. Plus, they were so easy to deal with, answered all of our questions and even picked us up at the airport so we didn't get lost. If and/or when we make it back to Aruba, we'll stay here again in a heartbeat.
This house was beyond our expectations, bigger than we had thought, beautifully decorated and spotless. The pool and outside area is perfect for sunbathing or sitting out in the balmy evenings. Gayle and Paul, the owners, are an extremely nice, hospitable couple who take huge pride in their home. They were quick to come over and ensure we were settled and answer any questions we may have. The house is in a great location, close to amenities. However we would recommend renting a car/jeep in Aruba to access the places of interest. The Natural Bridge was a little disappointing but the Natural Pool was well worth the hair-raising drive. Take your snorkel gear! The beaches are stunning, the sea warm. We would recommend the ribs at Smokey Joe's but beware, eating out is very expensive in Aruba, as is buying food in the supermarket. We would certainly recommend this property to anyone visiting Aruba and hope to return many more times. Last, but not least, many thanks to Matthew and Anna for their outstanding communication and professionalism. Matthew met us at the airport and made sure we were OK before leaving. He made the whole experience a smooth and happy one.
My husband, my mother and our 16 month old son stayed in this beautiful home this past week. We had the best time! The house was gorgeous and very spacious. The location was great, only about a 10 minute drive to the hotel areas and 15 minutes to the beach. The backyard swimming pool was amazing. We swam at least 3 times a day. Each and every room was clean and decorated with an awesome carribean theme. Matthew and Anna could not have been more helpful and kind. I must have emailed him at least 5 times prior to our arrival, and he always got back to me right away. He answered all of our questions and was very helpful. They met us at the airport and we followed them to the house. They were kind enough to wait as we unloaded our suitcases, and they then showed us where the nearest grocery store was because we needed to buy food and diapers right away. They also made sure that our son had a crib, high chair and beach toys waiting at the house, which was great for him. This was the second time we had visited Aruba. This time we made sure to eat dinner at the Flying Fishbone and it was absolutely perfect. We also revisited our favorite, El Gaucho. We snorkeled at Baby's Beach and Boca Catalina. I would reccomend this property to anyone looking to spend a week in Aruba. Thank you to Matthew and Anna for great service. We look forward to visiting Aruba in the near future.
Where do I begin extolling the virtues of this gorgeous property?! It truly is what you see in the photos, but far more. It's PERFECT in every way. Gayle's home is in a cul-de-sac of friendly, unobtrusive neighbours, and she lives nearby. When you drive up, her house will stand out b/c it's a riot of colours. Gayle tends to her breathtaking tropical plants and flowers painstakingly, and it shows. Then you step into the home and...WOW. I can't say enough about what a delight it truly is - her taste in decor is impeccable. 3 roomy bedrooms, 2 baths, a charming, user-friendly kitchen, plenty of room in the dining/living room area.

Nightlife in Aruba is something many have never experienced. A shame. While some would say that nightlife in Aruba is comparable to nightlife in other Caribbean islands, why not take a different approach? The Palm Beach and Oranjestad areas are the places to be when you want to make sure you’ll have some crazy stories to tell back home.

Aruba might only be 20 miles long and 6 miles wide, but this small Caribbean island still has a lot to explore. Apart from the swimming, snorkeling, diving and waterskiing, there are many secret spots left to discover inlands as well.
